What You Will Do:
The Family Nurse Practitioner is a member of the Department of Surgery with responsibilities within the department. The Nurse Practitioner is an Allied Health member of the medical staff and an employee of the hospital.
Management of wound patients as an ambulatory out-patient wound center as Advance Practice Provider. Performs patient care of patients scheduled for clinic visits at University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus Wound Healing Center by obtaining patient histories, performing physical examinations, prescribing treatment and medication modalities, and providing appropriate patient education. Oversees Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy. Responsible for communication with referring community providers and works as part of an integrated care team across both campuses of UMMC. Seeks surgical consultation as needed for difficult or complicated cases. As necessary, obtains medical and pre-surgical data from outside facilities and offices.
ResponsibilitiesPerforms ambulatory history, physical examinations with diagnosis, prescribing medications, diagnostic testing and lab work with plan of care. Evaluates and treats patients with following established CPG s for wound care.Writes progress notes, procedure notes medication reconciliation, treatment notes and records results for direct plan of care.Discriminates between normal and abnormal findings in all aspects of patient care.Performs wound care management independently and manages own ambulatory patient clinic with appropriate training, including supervision of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.Manages illness or problems related to the ambulatory wound patient within the scope of practicePerforms clinical procedures of superficial and/or sharp debridement in hospital surgical setting or ambulatory setting. **Procedural competency performance needs to be demonstrated and submission paperwork required for credentialing**.Writes medication orders for non-controlled, controlled, and non -prescription medications as appropriate.Orders diagnostic tests as deemed appropriate in accordance with established guidelines.Initiates appropriate evaluation and emergency management in emergency situations.Surgical posting submitted for ambulatory wound patients when needed.Established and maintains a good rapport and working relationship with departmental staff, hospital staff, patients, families, physicians and hospital visitors.As identified in the department/unit specific competency plan demonstrates:The technical competence necessary to provide quality care to age specific population.The ability to assess the developmental needs of age specific populationsThe ability to use equipment in a safe and proper manner.Demonstrates support and compliance with the University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus mission, vision, values, philosophy, goals, objectives and policies.Other duties as assigned by appropriate Advance Practice manager or Physician /Director of Wound Healing Center.
